JOBURG – This fungus kills the tree and can destroy a cluster of adjacent trees once the young beetles start to nest.

Good day Thabo, in this article you indicate that Sifumba has “noted this as a sign of an end to their efforts to combat the fungus”, does this mean that the City Of Joburg is withdrawing resource that has been assigned to finding a solution to the PSHB crisis? Just this week we have verified established PSHB infestation in 5 new South African towns where PSHB had not previously be reported. 100 dead street trees have been reported to Joburg City Parks for removal, and this small sample of actual dead trees are principally oriented around just a few suburbs where people are actively using the TreeSurvey mobile app. The general sentiment amongst stakeholders and service providers is that now is the time to escalate the response to PSHB, and not to end it.
